Per your post, you are saying that when you change the datatype to date in the universe, your report breaks. This should not be the case. Can you please elaborate on what is breaking? How is this data stored in the database - Is your ETL process reading this as a string? You might want to check this point and try to get the dates in the date format from the databse itself. If you are working with SAP cubes Im unsure whether you could even do this in the universe, however I'm no SAP expert. Put it in a column on its own and try the function, you will then be able to build it up bit by bit and see where it goes wrong....
